When you choose a WBS cost estimate to copy, from the basic or advanced search, the screen below will come next for you to:
- Edit the new description of your WBS
- Optionally apply a multiplication or complexity factor to the hours in your reference WBS as they are being copied. For example if the new project is more complex than the previous one then the complexity factor will be larger than 1
- Modify the company (org. unit) or site/department where the costs will be copied into. If you modify the department or site and you have maintained labor resource groups or rates for the new site which are different to the reference site then these new rates will be automatically adopted
- Select which WBS elements from the selected WBS and any elements below it, that you want to copy. For example if the reference WBS was for mobile app "development and testing", but the testing portion is being managed separately then you may elect to only copy cost estimates for the development WBS. As you check and uncheck boxes next to which WBS to copy, the superior WBS elements are automatically checked or unchecked. You can also see where this reference will be copied into or under (based on where you started searching for a WBS to copy, outlined above)
- The reference WBS costs will be always rescheduled based on the start and end dates for your new WBS, shown in the field label after the word 'Reschedule'
- If these dates are incorrect then cancel the copy and fix the dates. You can also amend the date afterwards but then you will have to adjust the cost estimate dates manually
- If these dates are correct the reference WBS labor, material etc. costs will be rescheduled to 'fit' into the new WBS start and end dates according to the selected scheduling method
- Select the new owner. The source system that the reference WBS is coming from is also displayed
- Finally and importantly you can check or uncheck what elements you wish to be copied (for the selected WBS on the left) including:
- Tasks below the checked WBS elements (if tasks are not copied then the task assignments for any copied cost estimates are cleared)
- Requirements assigned to the checked WBS elements
- Labor estimates
- Bill of material assigned to the check WBS elements and their associated consolidated material cost estimates
- Travel or other direct cost/other resource estimates
- Risks and opportunities
- The WBS Phase assignments can be copied, which may result in the creation of any new/missing phases
- If you check the box to copy the company/dept then the target site/dept is ignored, except in case of any WBS elements in the reference structure which have no company/dept assigned
- If you check the box to copy the owner then the target owner is ignored.
