Once you have selected the reference work-package to copy, the copy control popup below allows you to :
- The description of your new work-package can be edited here (the description of the old or reference work-package you are copying defaults but can be modified)
- Where to include the copied work-package, in other words under what WBS node in your new project structure
- If the new work is similar to the old reference work-package you can apply a complexity factor as you copy, which multiplies or factors the hours and $$-cost for each estimate according to this factor
- The old work-package is probably based on past performance history so it must be rescheduled to fit within the new project's dates. Select the scheduling method to apply as it is rescheduled
- If the company or site/department of the source work-package is to be changed, select the new target company and site-dept here. If the site or department is changed and the copied labor estimates have site-specific cost rates applied, then labor is automatically re-costed using the new site's rates
- The owner of the reference work-package can be copied across (12) or modified to a new owner, selected here
- The source system for the reference work-package is displayed from information, but cannot be changed
- If the referenced work-package or WBS contains WBS elements within or below, they are displayed on the left side, for the selected copy-from work-package and anything below (which is a technically a WBS not a task)
- Checking a specific WBS node copies all the estimates selected on the right for that particular WBS and anything below it
- Unchecking a specific WBS node prevents any labor etc. (as selected on the right) from being copied for that particular WBS and anything below it. Cost estimates for other WBS above or along-side are still copied. Check unchecking a box the superior box may get a light-check to indicate that some, but not all, of the lower level WBS elements have been included
- Copy control allows you to choose what to copy specifically do you want to copy:
- Tasks which fall within the checked WBS elements on the left
- Requirements assigned to these WBS
- Labor estimates for these WBS
- Bill of material data, plus any consolidated material requirements/cost proposals, for these WBS
- Travel estimates for these WBS
- Other direct cost estimates for these WBS
- Risks and opportunities linked to these WBS
- If you choose to copy phases then new phases may be created and the copied WBS will refer to them, unless the same phase already exists in the new proposal so it can be referenced directly
- If you choose to copy the company and site/dept then the new company or target site/dept input is not considered, unless the reference or source WBS company or site was blank
- If you choose to copy the owner, then there is no point in choosing a new owner in (6) above. In either case the new owner is assigned if the reference WBS has no owner
- Each custom field or tag can be selected individually, to copy. Any tags which are copied and which have not yet been assigned to your new target proposal will be automatically added to the new target proposal as proposal tags
- Hit confirm to confirm, or cancel or stop the copy from taking place.
