Importing or Copying a Standard BOM

Updated on

The screen above is the BOM header information shown after clicking on "Show summary info". Here you have:

  1. The proposal and BOE-WBS as well as the usual design to cost target, total estimated cost across labor, material, travel and other direct cost for this BOE
  2. Your assumptions about this BOE estimate overall, which you can edit
  3. An option to import a BOM either from SAP/PLM - importing a standard BOM, or from another quote or proposal. If you select another proposal to import the BOM from then select that quote or proposal in the next box
  4. Enter or select the parent assembly part number or description of the bill of material you want to import and click on the "Import" link just above this field. You can also enter the quantity you want to assign to the imported BOM. Clicking "Import" brings the popup below
  5. Select how you want to import the BOM to your proposal BOE, whether to include the standard BOM as-is without any option to modify it, to copy all levels of the standard BOM into your proposal, down to the purchased component level, or to copy only the selected assembly single-level BOM and include standard BOMs for lower level assemblies
    • If you include a standard BOM or copy a single level BOM and include standard BOMs for lower level assemblies you can easily convert these standard BOMs to proposal-specific BOMs later on by unchecking the "standard BOM" indicator
  6. Confirm or modify the description of the BOM you are importing, for example if your BOM is a similar-to it might need a new description
  7. Optionally enter the complexity or similar to factor to apply to the imported BOM. The similar-to factor is applied to all BOM levels which are imported and copy to proposal-specific, though you have the option to modify and cascade different complexity factors after import

You can click on the gear which appears when you are mousing over any node within the BOM display to access advanced features such as:

  1. Importing a standard BOM, or copying a BOM from another proposal
  2. Deleting that component
  3. Adjusting or cascading the complexity
  4. Downloading the BOM report to Excel, or
  5. Editing the lot-sizing rule or fixed lot-size for the product in question.
