Explains types of Time Off and rules associated with it
Time-Off Types
Time Off types are based on company policies and can vary. Every employee is entitled for certain leaves which he/she can avail based on prior approvals of his line of business leader or manager. To name a few common Time-off rules companies tend to use:
- Paid Time Off or Vacation
- Sick Leave
- Unpaid Leave
- Jury Duty
- Time off in Lieue
- Bereavement Leave
Company or public holidays on fixed dates such as Christmas or New Year are coded into your company's holiday calendar and do not need to be configured as a separate time-off rule.
Time-off Rules - Details
Rules are based on the type of Time off's allocated by HR to each employee and are highly customizable, for example:
- What is the accural period and how many days are allocated for annual entitlement
- If accruals will be credited to an employee's account on monthly or annual basis
- If leave is not accrued per say, rather employees may instead run a negative balance (or if employees can "borrow days" by running a negative balance even when leave is accrued)
- If leave can be requested and booked for less than a whole day (and what fractions can be used)
- Whether can be taken or separately whether it accrues during probation of notice of termination periods
- Whether the amount of leave an employee has earned changes over time based on their months of service
- Whether the month's leave is accrued ahead of time on 1st of new month or in arrears on last day or month
- The approval procedure for time off requests
