Explains the pros and cons of list or daily vs. overview or weekly time entry modes
Weekly Overview Mode
Once you have determined that you should complete a timesheet most people use the weekly input mode. This is also called "Overview mode" since some companies may configure timesheets for periods other than a week.
The advantages of the weekly mode are:
- Allows rapid input and at a glance overview of the complete week (or alternate timesheet period) on one screen
- Displays real time feedback with daily totals, total hours for week/timesheet and row by row task or project totals
- Attention is focused on the number of hours worked per task per day with other information (comments, location, start/stop times etc.) delegated to a less obvious panel at the bottom of the screen.
List Entry Mode
An alternate view within the timesheet is for list entry mode which is basically a table with one row per time entry. There are two options - daily input mode only gives access to today's time entries or time entries for a single day - whereas list entry shows all time entries for the entire week.
The advantages of daily mode are:
- A table with one row per time entry provides a cleaner visualization of task timers, imported time entries or multiple work items especially when users tend to work on different tasks from day to day
- With columns for project, customer, task, billable, comments, location, start, stop, hours and quantity it is possible to very quickly enter alot of information for very many time entries. Location and remarks if set up as required input can be access on a row by row basis easily
- Similar to the T&E List Report.
