Groups vs. Individuals

You can assign individuals or groups to a task. Groups can be created on the basis of department, skill-set, charge-out rate or any other criteria that best fits your organization. Refer to Groups for more information. Team and individual resources on a task have many aspects in common and some distinct differences:

  • Individuals have a specific cost rate, billing or equivalent T&M revenue rate and available capacity profile or work-schedule
  • Teams can be assigned a specific billing rate for revenue projection or quotation purposes but do not have a cost rate. They normally inherit the available capacity from their team members
  • Individuals can have a specific set of skills, teams are normally created on the basis of 1-2 skills
  • The required workload from tasks assigned to members of a team are automatically inherited up to the team as a whole.

Teams are assigned to tasks as resources in the same way individuals are assigned, by selecting the team from the list of resources and people available.

It is recommended to separate teams visually from individuals through a distinctive naming convention.
