Explains how to change a project type and why you are sometimes prevented from changing project type
How to Change a Project's Type
To change a project's type open the project and then click on the arrow next to the "Type" field (highlighted above) to show the list of possible project types to change, and select the new project type from the list.
When do I need to Change a Project Type?
You need to change a project type if it was set up wrongly in the first place. Projects types are configurable by company so it is not possible to specify what projects types will appear in your own list; this is up to your system administrator and iBE support consultant. However you should change project type when it is wrong, for example you set up an external client billable project with an internal type.
Why am I sometimes Prevented from Changing the Project Type?

Once a project has started you may not be allowed to change the type because of any of the following reasons. If you get the above message or a similar but more detailed message then you are not allowed to change to this project type. In this case you should find another approach (e.g. a new project for the outstanding deliverables) or contact your system administrator or iBE support.
- You cannot change project type from a billable type to a non-billable type if billable time or expenses have been incurred (transfer the time and expenses to another project or mark them as non-billable first). You cannot change project type to an internal or non-billable type under any circumstance if invoices have already been generated for that project
- You cannot change a billable project type to a new type which is priced in a different way, for example by service, resource or service/resource combined, without first transferring the rates to the new structure. In some cases the system prompts you to transfer the rates from one method to the new method, which you can do provided you check the rates afterwards
- If phases or priorities are not permitted for the new project type, but you have task phases or priorities currently assigned, you will be warned that they will be deleted. In reality if you make a mistake and change the type back the original phases/priorities are often restored.
