Explains how to change task start and end dates, why, and what checks take place when you do
Manually Changing Task Dates
You can manually change task dates by clicking on the start or end date columns for your chosen task and either typing in your new dates or selecting them from the calendar date picker.
Restrictions when Changing Task Dates

You cannot select an end date that is earlier than the start date of that task, or later than the end date of the project (if the task is assigned to a project) or later than the end date of a superior task (if the task is a sub-task and you are in the project > task application).
In the example above the start date is September 15 and project end November 30, 2014. This explains why the calendar date picker is not allowing end dates selections prior to 9/15/14 (highlighted) or later than 11/30/14 (shown in the previous step, above).
Conversely, you cannot select a start date that is later than the end date of the same task or earlier than the project or superior / parent task start date. There is currently no restriction on changing task dates coming from other tasks in the same project which are not superior or parent tasks.
Automatically Changing Task Dates

Click on the "Reschedule tasks" link (highlighted) next to the project finish date in the project header to automatically change the task dates. You have a choice of either:
- Rescheduling all tasks based on their offset from the project start date. Use this option if you changed the project start/finish dates and want to keep the same task schedule relative to the project dates, for example after copying a project or creating a project from a template
- Rescheduling all tasks so that they start on the project start and end on the project end dates. Use this option if your tasks normally span the duration of the project and all run in parallel and you want to align your task and project dates so they are the same as each other.
iBE.net does not currently support task constraints or dependencies and scheduling of tasks relative to other tasks in the same project based on start/finish relationships. This feature is in development and will be released very soon.
What Happens when I Change my Task Dates (How are Task Durations Calculated)?
When task dates are changed the system automatically recalculates and updates:
- Task duration - as end minus start (working time only)
- Remaining effort for each resource (if planning strategy is fixed utilization)
- Utilization for each resource's remaining time (if planning strategy is fixed work)
- Forecast cost to complete the task if remaining effort was changed
- Earned value metrics such as cost and schedule performance
- Traffic light task status
- Task reminders
- Resends adjusted calendar invitations.
Task durations are calculated on the basis of standard work hours only. For example if the project is assigned to an 8 hour day, 5 days a week then a task from Friday until Tuesday will be assumed to be 3 (not 5) days duration and 24 hours in total (3 days * 8 hours). Tasks which start and end on the same working day are assumed to have a one work-day duration (e.g. 8 hours, depending on the project's assigned work-schedule). Tasks which start and end on the same holiday are assumed to have zero duration.
Changing Task Times
If your task type is set-up to support start and end times as well as dates then you can manually adjust the start and end time of the task as well as the date. Durations for tasks with times which start and end on the same date are based on end time minus start time, for example a task starting at 10 am and finishing at 6 pm on the same date will be assumed to be 8 hours in duration. Duration for tasks with times which start and end on different days will be calculated as:
- Start time until end of normal shift (4 pm if not otherwise defined) on the first day
- Normal daily working hours for every day in between
- Start of normal shift (8 am if not otherwise defined) until the task's end time on the last day.
