Kinds or Categories of Tasks

Updated on

Tasks are the fundamental building blocks in iBE to manage the delivery of work and creation of value. There are several kinds of tasks for example:

  • Tasks within a project used to breakdown a larger project into smaller work packages or deliverables
  • Sales tasks such as setting up a meeting, sending an email or making a call to a prospect or client
  • Internal ad-hoc tasks or to-do list items
  • Support tickets

All of the cases above are represented as tasks in iBE.net. Sometimes they are called "tickets" and sometimes "activities" but underneath they are tasks.

Tasks in iBE.net have a common set of features including:

  • Planned and actual dates and priorities
  • Planned efforts and durations, actual vs. remaining effort and progress (% complete, cost & schedule performance)
  • People responsible for, assigned to perform, requesting and watching the task
  • Resources who can book time or get planned over the task's duration
  • Expenses - both individual travel expenses and supplier invoices
  • Reminders, status or workflow and notifications
  • Assignment to a project, customer, contact or opportunity
  • A product or service that is output (at a specific unit price times quantity delivered) as a result of delivering the task
  • Material components used up in the performance of the task
