Task Resources vs. Project Resources

Updated on

Explains the differences between resources assigned to a task and resources assigned to a project

Task Resources

Task Resources

Task resources indicate who is actually performing the work to deliver a task. They can book time and expenses to that task, and their planned and actual hours feed into the task's planned and actual costs and revenues.

Anyone added to a task within the Project > Task application is automatically added to the project as a resource as well.

Project Resources

Project Resources

You add resources to projects by clicking on the RESOURCES tab when you are editing your project. Project resources are the only people who can access the project, everyone else must open tasks in My Tasks instead. Resources are not planned on the project, if you add a resource to a project there is no work-effort associated with this assignment. To plan work for resources add them to tasks instead. You do get a view of:

  1. That person's standard work-schedule - to work out how much time they could potentially spend on your project
  2. Their default utilization, or the full time equivalency factor to apply when they are added to tasks in your project
  3. Their contact information and standard cost. You can edit their billing rates here.

People are added to tasks for workload planning and time recording purposes, and added to projects to invite, notify and allowe access, but not for planning work.
