Adding Delivery Milestones

Explains delivery vs. billing milestones and how to maintain delivery milestones

Delivery milestones are simply milestones which are part of your project's work or task breakdown, impacting the way the project is delivered as well as billing. Contrast this to billing milestones which are for billable items not part of the work or task breakdown.

Delivery milestones are marked with a check in the DELIVERY column, and no check in the BILLING column as highlighted in the screen shot above. Delivery milestones may be part of your task hierarchy and will also appear in the TASKS tab of your project. Any changes made to these milestones from either MILESTONE or TASKS tab will be reflected in the other tab.

Important fields of delivery milestones include:

  1. Milestone, or task, description
  2. Milestone start and end dates. If the milestone also has sub-tasks then the milestone start and end dates may control the sub-task dates
  3. Service being provided by this delivery milestone, which is important if you wish to bill for this milestone
  4. Amount of milestone fee, particularly useful when billing a fixed amount for each milestone. There are no restrictions to making delivery milestones billable
  5. Delivery vs. billing milestone checkboxes. Checking billing only column stops the milestone from being part of your task breakdown structure, however checking delivery only while it clears billing flag it does not mean you cannot bill for it.
