How to manage the WBS elements within your project
Work Breakdown
The work-breakdown structure, or WBS, in your project represents the set of sub-projects or task-lists or cost collectors within your project to manage schedule and costs for tasks required to complete the project. The WBS is a hierarchy which higher level WBS elements at levels 1-3 and then more detailed, task-specific, WBS at levels 4 and below. Tasks are normally assigned to the lowest level WBS elements in your project. WBS elements can be defined in SAP, interfaced from the proposal management application to SAP, or defined manually in this application.
To access the WBS click on WBS tab in your project.
- WBS hierarchies which are managed in SAP will reference the WBS defined in the SAP project selected in the SET-UP tab. Click on "Project data is managed in SAP" in the SET-UP tab to refer to the SAP WBS and to prevent users from editing the WBS elements in this application
- The WBS hierarchy can be expanded or collapsed by clicking on the arrow. Tasks can be assigned below WBS elements, normally only at the lowest level. Additional features are available from the gear menu
- If you are maintaining the WBS manually in this application you can "map" the WBS, at any level in the hierarchy, to one or more SAP project and WBS elements by selecting them from the SAP Project and WBS columns
- You can view (for SAP maintained WBS) or edit (for WBS set-up in this application) whether each WBS is a control package in SAP, a billing element in SAP or for proposals, used as a basis of estimate
- You can view or assign a company and site to each WBS
- Click on the pencil to view or edit details for each WBS.
You can also add or remove columns from the WBS list to access additional information.
