Estimating Requirements

Explains how to manage requirements in your Estimate

Requirements cascade down from Proposal to Estimate

Each estimate is for the delivery of one or more WBS elements in your proposal, to meet one or more specific customer requirements. These requirements are typically entered at a high level in the proposal and then further broken down in the estimate, either in this application or in a requirements tracking application such as DOORS.

To view and edit requirements click in the REQUIREMENTS tab in your estimate.

  1. All tabs of the estimate display the BOE WBS description as well as the proposal description in the top left corner
  2. All tabs of the estimate display the design to cost target as well as the total current estimated costs in the top right corner
  3. Requirements defined in the proposal which were assigned to this BOE WBS will be automatically displayed. To add new requirements or to break down an existing requirement, click on the + button or click on the link "no results found, click here to add" if there are no requirements (as shown)
  4. Enter the description of each requirement. You can also enter the document/chapter reference, requirement number and owner
  5. If requirements are tracked in DOORS then paste in the DOORS requirement URL instead of entering the other fields
  6. Some requirements may be assigned to the proposal but not yet assigned to the WBS represented by this BOE. If that is the case click on "Show all requirements" to see all requirements for the proposal, even ones not assigned to a WBS or assigned to a different WBS. Use the WBS column to change the assignment of a requirement to this BOE WBS
  7. You can upload requirements from Excel (e.g. DOORS extract) as well as downloading them.
